2 Months!

I now weigh 9.8 lbs. and am 23 inches long. I am long and skinny for my age. Most recently I have found my tongue and can roll it just like my mom.
I'm starting to smile more and blow bubbles. I like to kick my legs and they are so strong I can even stand up a little. I lost my newborn cry and can even get really mad sometimes. When I'm hungry, I cry and cry and then say "ma-ma.... uh mama" (I know who gives me the food).

Unique Challenges of Long Baby Hair

The other day Sam was changing Winston's diaper and I happened to come around near the end, so as Sam took the dirty diaper to the garbage I was left to sinch up the new diaper. As I was about to, Winston started crying. I looked at his face to tell him it would be okay and that I was almost done, when I noticed that his heightening cries were a result of his own doing.

He had a fistful of hair and wouldn't let go. He had such a strong hold that it was literally causing him pain--and his cries grew louder and stronger. His face was turning bright red and big tears were running down his cheeks. I tried to release his fist, but I couldn't without feeling like I'd pull out a clump of hair. It was so terrible to see his poor little face, but it was sadly humorous--that he was the cause of his own pain and couldn't help it.

Sam was able to unclench his fist and he calmed down shortly thereafter. We'll see if this happens again...I fear it will, since he has so much hair and he's anxious to grab on to things.

Side Sleeper

So, the other night we heard some grunting and groaning from Winston. This is actually a common occurance, but he was grunting a bit more than normal. Melanie reached in to grab Winston from the bassinet and this is what we saw.

Back to Work

Last week I went back to work after 6 wonderful weeks of maternity leave. Winston came right along with me. He mostly hangs out in my wrap asleep.

But when he's awake, he nurses while I check my work email and type one-handed, or he stares at the bookshelf from a blanket on the floor. So far, it's been really easy to have him at work...but I'm sure that will change when he becomes more mobile.

On another note, Winston has graduated from newborn diapers and onesises now. They still fit him around, but he is too tall for them. His other clothes are baggy but just right in length. I'm sure this will be a problem for the next month or so. Or maybe forever.

To Have Twins

Last week, I experienced for a small snippet of time what it would be like to have twins. I agreed to watch my 2-month old niece while Sam and my brother went fishing with the rest of his kids (and his wife was at work). I had to figure out how to load the car with all the stuff AND get two carseats out there. Then there was the problem of what to do if they were hungry at the same time. Winston is nursing, Morgan is bottle fed. I guess I could do both at once?

I decided to go to my mom's and have her help. :)
A few days later, I had Winston, Morgan, and 3 other kiddlings--5, 4, and 2 year olds. At 6am Morgan woke up and wanted to eat. I made a bottle, which she ate and fell asleep. Just then, Winston woke up and wanted to eat. I nursed him, and he fell asleep. None of the other kids were awake, so I seized that opportunity to jump in the shower and get ready for the day.
As soon as I was done drying my hair the 5 and 4 year olds woke up and wanted to eat. Just as I finished making breakfast for them, the 2 year old woke up and (you guessed it) wanted to eat. Then, the two babies woke up and the cycle would have repeated itself, but my mom came to help for a few hours.

Later in the weekend, we visited with Sam's brother's family, who has a baby 10 days younger than Winston. Both happened to be hungry at the same time (is there some baby-lingo that says babies are hungry at the same time when around eachother? Is it like pheramones and menstrual cycles in women?). Sam was helping out, and I couldn't resist this next "twins" photo opportunity of both of them eating.
It would be way fun to have twins...but exhausting. Kudos to you mothers of twins. And bless you. And how I hope you have plenty of help in the baby years.

My Little Snuggler

Political Comic--West Side Story Twist

If you'd like a good little laugh about the economic situation and what led to the junk we're hearing about check out this little movie at this link:

You'll find it even more comical if you happen to be familiar with the music from West Side Story.

Warning: I have "My I.R.A." stuck in my head after watching it...
