Sam's Birdy

Sam noticed a little bird in our garden on the stem of the peas. He tried to get it away, but it wouldn't fly. Then he tried to feed it a worm--which it didn't take. Eventually he had the bird in his hand, and is now trying to convince me to adopt it, since it won't fly away. He says if it's dead on our grass in the morning it's all my fault. (Since when did Sam turn into such an animal lover? It's cute!)

My Work is Complete

I picked up my bound copies of my thesis in Logan last week. It looks nice, but I don't really have the desire to look at it much. I'm just glad it is completely finished.

The World's Greatest Fresh Limeade

Sam makes the best-est limeade ever. Here's his recipe:
4 limes, freshly squeezed
1 cup sugar
A pitcher full of water
Mix well. Better the next day.

This photo had strawberries added to the limeade--about 1/2 cup chopped. Sam has also added cucumbers, or honeydew (strawberry is my favorite).

This is a little bit of heaven! Everyone should try some, or just come over to our house and Sam will make it for you (give us a day's notice for best results)!

Our First Day of Saturday Work

Today is the first Saturday in a long, long time that Sam and I have been in Duchesne (and not traveling). And so, to work we went (we made sure to have a yummy strawberry and waffle breakfast before we began, don't you fear).

I ground at least 20 cups of wheat, with the hefty wheat grinder I indirectly inherited from my grandmother. I prefer to do a little less than that, but we decided to do more, so that next time we want anything that calls for flour, we have enough.

While that was grinding, we both gathered our stuff and packed our bags for our adventures next week (stay tuned).

Next, we cleaned out our patio with the broom and sprayed it down with the hose. I'm amazed at how dirty people can let things like that get. Yuck!

Next, we weeded our garden (which really hasn't yet happened this year--it needed it badly), and harvested some of our home-grown spinach. Then I decided to spray the outside of the house to rinse off all its spider webs and dirt that I'm sure has built up over many years. It also felt really nice to be misted and sprayed by the cold water.

All of that was completed by about 2pm. We still have the whole day and night ahead of us! I think we'll plan more time to be home on Saturdays. It's the perfect day to get things done.

Mtn. Biking, Paddle Boating, & Mmmm, Mmmm Homemade Ice Cream

For the 4th of July, we decided to join my parents at their cabin in Manor Lands--off the Mirror Lake Highway, East Fork of the Bear River (in the high Uintas).

Darrell, Sam & I went on a 8 mile mostly off-road bike ride. Later we all enjoyed some scrumptious homemade fresh strawberry, fresh pineapple, and fresh banana custard-based ice cream (I'm drooling just thinking about how yummy it was!).

On Saturday we took my parents' paddle boat to Sulphur Springs Reservoir in Wyoming for an intense yet relaxing excursion of paddling and paddling and paddling across the reservoir and back.

After that we enjoyed more homemade ice cream with our choice of mixins--Cold Stone Style--before Sam and I headed home. It was a enjoyable trip, with just Mom, Darrell, Sam & me.

Stucko--To Be or Not To Be a New Member of the Family

I rode my bike home this morning after lap swim to find that Sam had found a new friend. This new friend woke him up meow-ing in the morning. I picked the poor scared little thing up, and you could tell it just wanted to play.

It soon stopped meowing enough for us to stop worrying about it. When I got home from work it was no where in site. When Sam got home from work, we heard meowing again. Sam (yep, the cat lover that he isn't) convinced me it was okay to give the little dirty thing some milk.

As we ate dinner we debated on feeding it, keeping it, and naming it. So far, Stucko has stuck with us. The naming part of the conversation went like this:
"How about 'one sock'?"
"That's boring. What about 'un socko'?"
"Its tail is stuck straight up in the air, how about 'stucko'?"
Stuck it is for now.
We took a few photos of how adorable Sam can be with little creatures, and then left on a trip.

We still haven't decided what to do if the kitten is still there when we return...
